University of Colombo’s Center for Open and Distance Learning Celebrates 9th Convocation and Award Ceremony

The Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) at the University of Colombo held its 9th External Degree Award Ceremony and Convocation on July 12, 2026. The prestigious event was conducted in two sessions at the Auditorium of the Student Service Centre, Faculty of Science.
The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake. Distinguished attendees included the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Professor Upul Sonnadara; the Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, Professor S.S.N. Perera; the Registrar, Ms. K.C.S. Perera; along with members of the academic, administrative, and non-academic staff.
During the proceedings, the University conferred 209 Bachelor’s degrees to external students. In addition to the degree conferment, three Diplomas were awarded to successful candidates. The ceremony also recognized the pinnacle of academic excellence with the presentation of Gold Medals for the Best Student in their respective fields.
The event highlighted the University’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible higher education and fostering academic excellence through its open and distance learning programs.
